Rye Road Junk Mail
(Or: It Nearly Happened)
Yesterday, the postman parked
his van outside our building, dragged out
the cans and piled our trash into the back.
Obviously someone sorted it
during the night: I got a torn
corn flakes box and two empty wrappers
(Mars and Wrigley) in the mail today.
Running now to catch the last post
I fully expect two fluorescent guys
to toss my translation of a court order
(with invoice) into the revolving shovel
on the back of a Clean City truck.

It nearly happened? I'm not surprised. Mail and Junk are often so similar these days.
It's subtle and fun, shister, and I expect it to happen any day.
